As part of the Kleve District Forum, three companies, along with the academic departments at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences selected to collaborate with them and their students, were honoured this year with the Kleve District University Award.
KHS GmbH of Kleve, represented by Volker Zahn, collaborated with Professor Dr.-Ing. Stefanie Dederichs and her students. This project focused on digitalisation to support the changeover process on packaging machines for various tasks. The result of this collaboration: precise adjustment data can now be displayed visually on a mobile device.
At Mühlhoff Umformtechnik GmbH in Uedem, Managing Director Uwe Rautzenberg and Norbert Reintjes, Head of Design, jointly supervised a project together with Professor Dr.-Ing. Kisters from the Chair of ‘Mechanical Engineering and Product Design’ and student Daniel Neubauer. This led to the creation of written design specifications for tools, known as the ‘Tool Design Specifications 2.0’, which will facilitate high-level collaboration, particularly with suppliers both at home and abroad.
The third company to be recognised was Chefs Culinar West, based in Weeze. The collaboration between the managing directors Dr Christian Moll and Hans-Gerd Janssen, HR Manager Ingo Derksen, Professor Dr Robert Renner from the Chair of ‘Health Promotion and Nutrition’, and student Anne Kohl focused on the challenge of examining and compiling information on the psychological stresses and potential risks to which staff might be exposed within the company. As part of the company’s occupational health management programme, the Master’s student’s project is intended to benefit the more than 700 employees of Chefs Culinar West.
These projects are prime examples of successful collaboration between academia and industry and clearly demonstrate that business leaders in the district have long recognised the significant role that Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences can play in the day-to-day operations of their companies.
