Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences not only offers students an internationally oriented, innovative and interdisciplinary course of study, but also plays a significant role within the region. As part of his farewell visit to the district of Kleve, Ronald Pofalla, Member of the Bundestag and MP for the Kleve constituency, visited Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and looked back on his time in politics and local government in the district of Kleve.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 20 November 2014: The Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve welcomed a distinguished visitor yesterday morning. Ronald Pofalla, a member of the German Bundestag since 1990 and, since 1994, the directly elected Member of Parliament for the Kleve constituency, visited the district of Kleve – and consequently the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences – to mark his departure from politics.
Following a brief reception attended by representatives of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, District Administrator Wolfgang Spreen, Deputy Zandra Boxnick, and Wilfried Suerick, Coordinator of Administration and Management, as well as numerous members of the press in the Senate Hall of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr Marie-Louise Klotz, President of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, emphasised the excellent cooperation between the political sphere and the university.
In a subsequent round-table discussion, Pofalla looked back on his political career spanning more than 30 years. In his closing remarks, he emphasised that the consistently positive and successful collaboration with the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences would remain a particularly fond memory for him.
Pofalla has been a member of the German Bundestag since 1990 and, since 1994, has served as a directly elected Member of Parliament for the Kleve constituency. From 1991 to 2007, he was CDU district chairman for the Kleve district, and has been regional chairman of the CDU Lower Rhine since 2000. From 2005 to 2009, Pofalla was Secretary-General of the CDU in Germany, and from 2009 to 2013 he served as Head of the Federal Chancellery and Federal Minister for Special Tasks. With his forthcoming move from the Federal Chancellery to Deutsche Bahn, Pofalla is stepping down from politics and leaving the Kleve constituency.
