With a packed auditorium and a panel comprising six professors and a research assistant from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, the three-part seminar series on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) came to an end on Tuesday evening at 6 pm.
At the start of the discussion, the six participants set out their views, which already suggested that the debate would be a fascinating one. The majority of the panellists tended to side with the supporters of the controversial agreement; however, there was also a clear dissenting view, as well as a neutral voice. The panellists included the economists Prof. Dr. habil. Gregor van der Beek, Prof. Dr. Hasan Alkas, Prof. Dr. Oliver Serfling and research assistant Zunera Rana. Prof. Dr Dietrich Darr explained the environmental and consumer protection aspects, whilst Prof. Dr John Henry Dingfelder Stone covered the legal perspective.
In a relaxed atmosphere, the enthusiastic panellists treated the more than one hundred students in attendance to an interesting, stimulating and entertaining debate in a format rarely seen before. After more than 90 minutes of patient listening, the audience then had the opportunity to put their questions to the professors. To round off the event, the “Current Affairs Society” invited everyone to an informal discussion over snacks and drinks.
