No physics, no music? (News)

As part of the Children’s University at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in the 2017/2018 winter semester, the second lecture will focus on the topic ‘Seeing Music – Hearing Physics’.

Prof. Dr Alexander Struck (Professor of Theoretical Physics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences) and Heinz-Gerd Van Den Wyenbergh (lecturer at the music schools in the Kleve district) show the young aspiring students that there can be no music without physics.

As part of the session, the children will experience hands-on music with a real professor and a genuine musical theatre drummer (Express-Express, We Will Rock You). The programme consists of musical experiments and talks on physics. These will explain what music actually has to do with physics and explore the question of whether music is even possible without physics. The children will also have the opportunity to try out various percussion instruments and ask questions.

The event will take place on 29 November 2017 from 5.15 pm to 6.00 pm at the Kleve campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, in the lecture theatre centre, Audimax. Admission is free and no registration is required.

The Children’s University

Through the Children’s University, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences offers children aged between eight and twelve the chance to develop a passion for the world of science through lectures (45 minutes) designed especially for them. Just like real students, they are given student ID cards. They sit in lecture theatres and can ask the experts as many questions as they like. The main difference from a proper degree course is that there are no exams to sit.

Come and join in!

Children who are keen to take part in the Children’s University can attend either all or just individual lectures. The current lecture timetable for the Children’s University can be viewed on the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences website at www.hochschule-rhein-waal.de. No registration is required for the lectures. Admission is free.
