This year’s Wednesday Academy is themed ‘From regional to global – business and society in the current political climate’. Professor Dr Jakob Lempp will kick off the series on 9 May 2018 with a talk entitled ‘The Grand Coalition, Take Four’.
The programme for the Wednesday Academy at the Faculty of Society and Economics has been finalised. The theme ‘From regional to global – economy and society in the current climate’ not only covers fascinating topics but also reflects the faculty’s thematic and interdisciplinary diversity. Current topics will be clearly presented by speakers from academia and the professional world, examined from a theoretical perspective and discussed in large groups.
The political science lectures will, amongst other things, explore the topics of ‘Opinion polling, its pitfalls and what can be done about them’ and ‘The fourth grand coalition’. These sessions explore why forecasts are becoming increasingly inaccurate and how the unusual path to the grand coalition will significantly reshape German politics in the long term. Furthermore, limitations are highlighted and answers to key questions are provided.
In the economic context, the lectures include, for example, ‘Securing an entrepreneur’s life’s work – easier said than done’ and ‘Behavioural economics: the example of nudging’. These address the question of how companies can prepare succession planning effectively and efficiently to ensure a smooth generational transition, and how rationally economic actors make their decisions.
Aspects of social interaction are also discussed. For instance, the presentations ‘The Day of the Good Life – A catalyst for sustainable urban development’ and ‘Neighbourhood development in Kleve’ provide an insight into an initiative and a study on how ideas for a good life can be collaboratively conceived and shaped, and how this might lead to potential areas of action for future local planning and neighbourhood development.
The lecture series is aimed primarily at members of the public with an interest in the subject, but also at students and academic staff at the university. Attendance is free of charge and no prior registration is required. The events take place every Wednesday at 6.00 pm on the Kleve campus, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, in Building 02 (next to the lecture theatre block), Room 02 01 017 (Seminar Room 5).
