In the second half of the year, the ‘Wednesday Academy’ programme will examine not only historical developments but also the economic and political aspects of this town on the Lower Rhine. The series begins with the lecture ‘The People of Kleve: Who were/are they? A demographic history of the city of Kleve’ on 4 October 2017, in which Bert Thissen, Head of the City of Kleve Archives, will provide an insight into the development of the local urban population.
This year’s programme for the Wednesday Academy at the Faculty of Society and Economics combines presentations on current developments in the town of Kleve with lectures on its history. In October, the second part of the lecture series marking the anniversary year will begin at the Kleve campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Alongside academics from the faculty, external speakers will deliver thematically focused lectures on the Lower Rhine city.
The upcoming programme of events includes topics such as ‘From an elephant to a centipede – the economic structural change that has taken place in Kleve’ on 18 October, as well as presentations on demographic history, such as ‘Kellen and Kleve. Do things that belong together grow together?’ (22 November). Current student projects in the field of gender equality will also be presented as part of the Wednesday Academy on 8 November.
Through this lecture series, the Faculty of Society and Economics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences aims to encourage students, lecturers and, above all, the interested public to reflect together on local issues. The faculty cordially invites you to the events, which take place at 6 pm on the Kleve campus, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, Building 2, Room 02 01 017 (Seminar Room 5). Attendance is free of charge and open to all interested parties. No advance registration is required.
