Annette Storsberg, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, has appointed the members of the University Council of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences for the new term of office. Prior to this, she toured the Kleve campus together with the Executive Board.
On 2 July 2019, State Secretary Annette Storsberg presented the ten members of the University Council with their certificates appointing them to their new five-year term of office. The certificates were presented in the presence of the Executive Board of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
Prior to the official appointment of the University Council members, State Secretary Storsberg was received by the Executive Board. During a guided tour, she learnt about the innovations, technologies and current research projects at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. This enabled the State Secretary to gain first-hand insight into developments at the university and to gain a good understanding of the institution.
At the inaugural meeting of the University Council that followed, the State Secretary wished the re-elected and new members of the University Council every success and all the best for their future work. “I would like to thank you for your commitment to Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences and I am confident that you will bring your personal experience and professional expertise to this body. In doing so, you will make a significant contribution to further developing the profile of this young university,” said Annette Storsberg.
The new University Council comprises the following external members: Dr.-Ing. Michael Deilmann, Head of Sensor Technology Development, KROHNE Messtechnik GmbH; Brigitte Jansen, Managing Director, wir4-Wirtschaftsförderung AöR Moers; Milena Karabaic, Head of the Department for Culture and Landscape Conservation, Rhineland Regional Council; Dr Martin Kessler, Senior Political Editor, Rheinische Post; Professor Dr Aloys Krieg, Head of Chair A for Mathematics and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, RWTH Aachen University; Professor Stefan Leupertz, Leupertz Construction Conflict Management, Honorary Professor at TU Dortmund and former Judge at the Federal Court of Justice.
Internal members are Professor Dr.-Ing. Joachim Gebel, Professor of Process Engineering and Thermodynamics at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics; Professor Dr Daniela Lud, Professor of Environmental Assessment and Remediation at the Faculty of Communication and Environment; Professor Dr Diana Marquardt, Professor of Business Administration specialising in the tourism industry at the Faculty of Society and Economics; and Professor Dr Robert Renner, Professor of Health Promotion and Nutrition at the Faculty of Life Sciences.
The appointment process for the University Council was conducted by a selection committee comprising members of the Senate, the previous University Council and a representative from the Ministry. Professor Krieg was elected Chair of the new University Council, and Professor Renner was elected Deputy Chair. “As the Executive Board, we look forward to a constructive and fruitful collaboration with the new University Council. The university will certainly benefit from the specialist expertise of its members across a wide range of fields,” explains Dr Oliver Locker-Grütjen, President of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
