Following the successful collaboration with students from Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in 2018, the ALTANA Group once again invited students to take part in an interdisciplinary project. In January, the second project team presented its findings on the topic of ‘Green Logistics – Reducing ALTANA’s Carbon Footprint’.
Under the supervision of Professor Dr Kalhoff, Dr Seidel (external) and Mr Kieroth, the students developed a comprehensive concept for calculating CO₂ emissions from ALTANA’s outbound logistics and for identifying ways to reduce CO₂ consumption. The project team received active support from company representatives. Through regular dialogue, the students gained a comprehensive insight into the various business areas of the international speciality chemicals group based in Wesel, which has 47 production sites and 60 service and research laboratories worldwide. Through intensive dialogue with the company, the team succeeded in developing bespoke solutions for CO₂ reduction by optimising transport routes, utilising environmentally friendly vehicles and deploying smart technologies.
Following the successful project presentation, the results were discussed over a joint lunch.
The ALTANA Group intends to continue its collaboration with the university in the future. On the one hand, certain aspects of the existing project are to be further developed; on the other hand, entirely new opportunities for future collaboration are to be identified.
