The final year group of the early musical education programme staged the theatre musical ‘In the Deep, Salty Sea’, with the support of students from the Faculty of Society and Economics.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 26 January 2015: In the theatre musical ‘In the Deep, Salty Sea’, the boys and girls demonstrated what they had learnt during the two-year early musical education course led by Sybille Mareck, head of the Musikgarten and lecturer in early childhood education at the Faculty of Society and Economics at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. With the support of students on the Bachelor’s degree programme in ‘Early Childhood Education’ at the Faculty of Society and Economics, the 24 children rehearsed a fun and lively theatre musical in which the 24 children, aged between five and seven, portrayed sea creatures.
At the start of the musical, all the sea creatures introduced themselves to a rhythmic three-four time. Blue dolphins danced across the rolling waves of the sea. Dressed as beautiful mermaids, shells and fish, the children told the story of the little shell through music. Accompanied by the triangle, the percussion instruments cabasa, guiro and Ozeandrums, as well as the glockenspiel and xylophone, the wondrous sea creatures performed to the aquatic music of the German Baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann. Berthold De Bortoli provided the piano accompaniment.
The audience clapped enthusiastically in time with the rhythm and rewarded the young stars of the stage with thunderous applause.
