Enjoyment for a good cause: that was the theme of the first ‘HOCH(schul)GENUSS’ charity evening, organised at the invitation of the Welling family and the Lions Clubs of Moers, Kamp-Lintfort/Rheinberg and Neukirchen-Vluyn, in collaboration with Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
“We want to offer all guests a forum to get to know Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences better, make new contacts and exchange ideas,” says Elmar Welling, the host of the charity event, who also covered the full cost of the evening.
Last night, the university was therefore on hand to provide the more than 300 attendees with all the information they needed about the various faculties, the range of degree programmes and university activities. At four information points, guests were able to talk to representatives from the four faculties – ‘Technology and Bionics’, ‘Life Sciences’, ‘Society and Economics’ and ‘Communication and Environment’ – which fostered a lively exchange of ideas.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Welling family and the Lions Clubs for their extraordinary commitment and extensive support for the university. We are delighted to be able to support fantastic university projects with the proceeds from the charity evening,” said University President Dr Heide Naderer. This is because the proceeds from ticket sales and other donations for the charity evening will go entirely to Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
As a token of gratitude, members of the Executive Board and professors from Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, together with the chefs from Wellings, provided refreshments for the guests. At three live cooking stations offering cold and hot dishes as well as sweet treats, members of the university community were able to demonstrate their culinary skills. In addition, the university showcased ‘3D food printing’ – the process of printing with food. Freshly printed marzipan and chocolate added an extra highlight to the dessert and offered guests a glimpse into the possibilities of Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences’ high-tech ‘FabLab’ workshop.
Musical entertainment was provided by the band ‘Accoustic Lounge’ and Manfred Hendricks, the music coordinator at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, on the piano. As well as two music areas, guests were also able to enjoy a wide selection of beers and wines in the bar, the wine bar, the Sommergarten restaurant and on the lakeside terrace.
