Visitors to the first Rhine-Waal Mini Maker Faire on 13 April 2019 can look forward to exciting inventions, interactive workshops and plenty of fun with crazy ideas centred on green technologies, sustainability, urban gardening and upcycling.
The Mini Maker Faire is a festival of ideas and invention that offers ‘makers’ from across North Rhine-Westphalia a platform to showcase their work, tinker, create and get to know one another: scientists, students, school pupils, as well as clubs and associations from the city and the wider region are all warmly invited. ‘Makers’ are people of all ages who love to experiment and enjoy doing things themselves. They are creative minds, inventive lateral thinkers and technology enthusiasts.
The Maker Faire has its origins in the USA. It is a combination of a science fair and a funfair, yet it is something entirely new. At this family-friendly festival celebrating inspiration, creativity and innovation, ‘makers’ come together to present their projects to a wide audience. It is also a place for personal networking and the exchange of knowledge. For some exhibitors, taking part can even mark the start of a successful start-up.
‘Hands-on’ is a key feature. Every Maker Faire features many interesting interactive stations, complemented by exciting workshops. Young people in particular are inspired, in a playful way, to take an interest in science, technology and the joy of working with materials and tools. The thematic focus of a Maker Faire includes areas such as 3D printing, DIY, IT, handicrafts, electronics, traditional crafts, robotics, steampunk, upcycling, virtual reality, science and research.
The festival is also intended to whet the appetite of all visitors and stakeholders in the run-up to the ‘Green FabLab’, with which Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences will be showcasing itself at the 2020 Kamp-Lintfort State Garden Show.
The first Rhine-Waal Mini Maker Faire is an initiative of the NUCLEUS project at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. It is organised by the Faculty of Communication and Environment.
