Sparkasse Duisburg has a long-standing association with Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Thanks to its financial support, it ranks amongst the university’s most significant sponsors. “We are delighted with the partnership with Sparkasse Duisburg. It opens up further opportunities for us in teaching and research,” said President Dr Heide Naderer at the signing ceremony. “The university, with all its students, lecturers and staff, is a key asset to the local area,” explains Dr Joachim Bonn, Chairman of the Board of Sparkasse Duisburg, adding: “Through our commitment, we aim to help ensure that teaching and research at the Kamp-Lintfort campus can be carried out to a high standard, thereby enabling this location to continue to develop positively in the future.”
Sparkasse Duisburg has been a member of the Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V. (Friends of the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences) ever since the university was founded in 2009. It has also been active as a scholarship provider since 2009 as part of the Germany Scholarship scheme run by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Thanks to its annual contribution of 3,600 euros, it supports two high-achieving students at the university each year.
With an annual sponsorship of 5,000 euros, Sparkasse Duisburg has also been supporting the university’s Kamp-Lintfort campus since 2015. Among other things, this sponsorship is used to recognise outstanding academic achievements by students or dissertations with the ‘Sparkasse Prize’, or to run the so-called MakerLab at the FabLab Kamp-Lintfort. For the past three years, Sparkasse has also been donating 10,000 euros a year to the campus for specific purchases.
Initially intended to last for two years, these financial support measures from the Sparkasse are set out in writing in a Letter of Intent. “The fact that Sparkasse Duisburg is making such a commitment is exemplary and demonstrates once again its clear commitment to our university,” said the President, expressing her sincere thanks to the Chairman of the Board.
