For the third time, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is hosting an open hackathon on the topic of accessibility. Under the name ACCESSATHON, participants are working together to develop ideas and solutions designed to make life easier for people with disabilities.
The aim of the event is to develop innovative solutions using state-of-the-art technologies such as additive manufacturing (e.g. 3D printing), artificial intelligence and augmented reality. Precision tools (3D scanners, laser cutters, CNC machines) and state-of-the-art software are used to create the best possible, well-thought-out concepts and prototypes in the shortest possible time. Another key objective is to bring together people with and without disabilities, enabling them to communicate their needs first-hand whilst raising awareness of the need for accessibility in all areas of life.
Interdisciplinarity lies at the heart of the ACCESSATHON concept. All participants are experts in their own right and can contribute their knowledge and skills – be it creativity, technical know-how or personal experience. Over 15 fantastic projects were developed at the last two hackathons. As well as receiving extremely positive feedback from participants and the audience, the events also led to personal friendships and partnerships with similar projects both within and outside the region.
To ensure inclusion and the dissemination of results, most communication takes place in English. However, interested parties who only speak German will also be able to take part.
