A lecture as part of the Studium Generale programme at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences on 31 January 2017 at the Kleve campus on the topic of fair trade.
By submitting its application to become a Fairtrade Town, Kleve is positioning itself as an innovative local authority and demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility. The Fairtrade Towns campaign offers stakeholders from civil society, politics, educational institutions and the business sector a concrete course of action for implementing international sustainable development goals. The Konrad-Adenauer-Gymnasium in Kleve and Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences have also embarked on the path to becoming Fairtrade institutions. The aim is to develop long-term, sustainable activities in this area in order to raise public awareness of justice and social responsibility.
Using specific examples from the activities of the city, the school and the university, Professor Dr Matthias Kleinke and representatives of the General Students’ Committee (AStA) at the university, as well as the Kolping Society of Kleve, the City of Kleve and the Konrad-Adenauer-Gymnasium, will outline the measures being taken and the challenges that remain in order to ensure that Fairtrade is sustainably established in Kleve, both as a value in its own right and as a source of social benefit.
The lecture forms part of the Studium Generale programme. The lecture series is aimed at the general public, as well as students, lecturers and staff at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences, and presents current topics in a way that is relevant to everyday life and informative. The series also offers the opportunity to engage with topical issues. “We invite everyone, regardless of age, to attend these fascinating lectures,” says the university’s President, Dr Heide Naderer.
Attendance at the Studium Generale lectures at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is free of charge for all members of the public.
