By appointing a research manager with experience in university management as interim chancellor, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is ensuring a seamless transition in the university’s administration until the post of chancellor is filled.
University President Dr Heide Naderer and University Council Chair Aloys Krieg regard Dr Oliver Herrmann, a 51-year-old graduate in public administration and a lawyer, as an “excellent choice” for the interim role.
Herrmann has worked in academic administration at various universities for more than 25 years and has extensive experience in university management, including as Chancellor of Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and, most recently, as President of Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences. He currently works as a consultant in the higher education sector. His projects include, amongst others, the coordination of the Campus OWL association, the consortium of the five state universities in East Westphalia-Lippe.
Until the new Chancellor takes office, Herrmann will take over the role of Chancellor from the outgoing acting Chancellor, Karsten Koppetsch, with effect from 23 August 2017. In appointing Herrmann, the university has acted on a recommendation from Senior Ministerial Adviser Sigrid Rix-Diester of the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and is delighted to have found such a highly qualified expert, thereby ensuring a seamless transition in this important role. Herrmanns will not be standing as a candidate in the election for Chancellor, which is expected to take place in the autumn.
