The Germany Scholarship provides high-achieving and socially committed students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences with financial support that enables them to devote themselves fully to their studies. Even with a small donation, local residents can now help to fund a scholarship.
For over ten years, the Deutschlandstipendium has been supporting students at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences who have already achieved outstanding academic results or who are expected to achieve particularly good academic results. In addition to academic performance, social commitment, a willingness to take on responsibility and any special social, family or personal circumstances are taken into account.
Scholarship holders initially receive 300 euros per month for one year. The university secures half of the funding from private sponsors, whilst the other half is provided by the federal government. For the 2023/24 funding year, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences was able to secure a total of 49 scholarships.
Frauke Waßmuth, now a research assistant at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, received a Germany Scholarship whilst studying for her Master’s degree in bionics. “For me, the Germany Scholarship is linked not only to financial aspects but, above all, to social ones. Thanks to the funding, I was able to take part in a wide range of student activities and, together with my team, even win the world championships at a submarine race in Southampton. That was a unique and unforgettable experience, which led to many international contacts that have already brought numerous benefits for my future professional and personal life,” said Waßmuth.
The Germany Scholarship is also open to international students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. For them, the scholarship provides, in particular, financial relief, which gives them the freedom, for example, to take German language courses or get involved in social activities both within and outside the university.
This year, the university is breaking new ground to make it easier for private individuals to contribute to the funding scheme. Anyone wishing to personally support students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences can do so with a contribution of as little as 20 euros. All donations are added together, and once 1,800 euros have been raised, the university can apply to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for a further scholarship.
