26 representatives – including 20 students – from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences visited the country from 10 to 18 June 2017. The aim of the trip was to strengthen international relations between Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and two universities located in the capital, Bishkek.
The delegation comprised five professors, 20 students from various Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, and the International Affairs Officer from the Faculty of Life Sciences. They spent seven days in Kyrgyzstan and visited, amongst other places, the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University (KNAU for short) and MANAS University of Bishkek (MANAS for short). KNAU is regarded as one of the leading agricultural universities in Kyrgyzstan. MANAS offers a wide range of degree programmes and was founded as a joint venture between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.
As well as visiting the two partner universities of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, the delegation had the opportunity to travel around the country and get to know it better. This provided insights into rural arable farming, a number of agricultural businesses and the country’s culture. During visits to a rice processing plant and a jam distribution centre, for example, the students were able to observe theory being put into practice and learn from these new experiences. The tour of the legendary Arslandbob walnut forest was particularly impressive and interesting, as Prof. Dr Dietrich Darr, Prof. Dr Florian Kugler and Prof. Dr Florian Wichern, together with other partners, will be carrying out a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research on the utilisation of walnut forests.
