Companies, associations, foundations and private individuals from the Lower Rhine region are supporting the Germany Scholarship at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Last year, 78 high-achieving students benefited from this – the highest number to date. In the forthcoming funding period for 2018/2019, the aim is once again to enable as many students as possible to focus more effectively on their studies thanks to this financial support.
The Germany Scholarship enables Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences to support students who achieve excellent academic results and also demonstrate a high level of academic or social commitment. This support is of great importance for academic success, as it enables scholarship holders to concentrate fully on their studies. For one year, they receive €300.00 per month. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research covers half of this amount. The university raises the other half from private donors. In this endeavour, it is actively supported by the three alumni associations:
Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V., Campus Cleve e.V. and Campus Camp-Lintfort e.V. From the very beginning, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences has been one of the first universities to participate in the Germany Scholarship scheme. Since 2011, more than 300 students at the university have received funding through this scheme. Last year alone, 78 scholarships were awarded – the highest number to date across all previous funding periods. “This would not be possible without the commitment of the local community. Whether they are companies, associations, foundations or private individuals, they all play a part in ensuring that the Germany Scholarship has now become a success story at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences,” said President Dr Heide Naderer.
This year, Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences will once again be able to award the Germany Scholarship. The university is responsible for selecting the candidates, but also takes the wishes of the scholarship providers into account and, where possible, seeks out scholarship recipients whose academic backgrounds are a good fit for the companies in question. In this way, both sides benefit from the scholarship. Students have the chance to get to know companies – and thus potential employers – at an early stage. Companies have the opportunity to engage with talented individuals and get to know potential future staff, for example through an internship or for Bachelor’s or Master’s theses.
In addition to financial support, the scholarship also offers non-financial support to the scholarship recipients. A support programme provides a platform for networking between the scholarship recipients and the sponsors. One element of this support programme, for example, is the yearbook. It offers a glimpse into the lives of the scholarship holders and reflects their personal impressions as well as the significance the scholarship holds for each of them.
