The zdi cleverMINT Centre in the district of Kleve, run by Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, is launching its first online course on ‘Climate Change and Health’ during the final week of the school holidays. Pupils aged 15 and over from across North Rhine-Westphalia can take part free of charge.
How do trees influence the urban climate? Questions such as these will be answered as part of the online holiday course, which takes place from 3 to 6 August 2020, from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm each day. The necessary environmental data will be collected collaboratively during the course.
‘Sei KluG – Climate and Health’ is the name of the new online workshop run by the zdi School Laboratory at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, which aims to inspire young people to take an interest in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). The workshop explores the fascinating links between climate and climate change and their consequences for human health. The pupils will programme and customise the necessary measuring devices themselves. A freely programmable, Arduino-based mobile system is used for this purpose, which can be used to record various environmental parameters (such as temperature, particulate matter, relative humidity, etc.). The data can then be accessed via the World Wide Web and used for further projects.
The workshop is free of charge. To take part, you will need a computer or tablet with internet access. The deadline for registration is 28 July 2020.
