In November, 28 students from the Faculty of Life Sciences were awarded second prize by the ‘Industrieverband Körperpflege und Waschmittel e.V.’ for their participation in the action day.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 25 November 2015: How did people wash their clothes a hundred years ago? How should dirty laundry be sorted correctly? Does a dishwasher use more water than washing up by hand? The students addressed these and other topical issues during the ‘Sustainable Washing’ action day, and on 23 July 2015 presented the fascinating results to over 200 visitors in the lecture theatre centre on the Kleve campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr Dirk Bockmühl, Professor of Hygiene and Microbiology at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, the students, in collaboration with the ‘Forum Waschen’, put together an exciting programme. In recognition of the successful event, the ‘IKW – Industrielle Körperpflege und Waschmittel e.V.’, in cooperation with the ‘Forum Waschen’, awarded the 28 students second place in the education category, with a prize of 300 euros.
As part of the event, visitors were able to put their sense of touch to the test or demonstrate their knowledge in a quiz on the topic of ‘washing up’. The historical retrospective ‘Laundry Through the Ages’ was particularly well received. Using items of clothing, it vividly illustrated how the tradition of laundry has changed from our grandmothers’ time to the present day.
