At the weekend, the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences’ international futsal team competed in Münster against eleven teams from across Germany at the German University Futsal Championships (indoor football), battling it out for the title of German University Futsal Champion.
Following a commanding performance in the group stage and a 3–1 victory in the semi-final, the ten players faced the hosts in the final. Despite their immense motivation and commitment, the team were ultimately unable to get the better of the technically strong side from Münster, but the joy of finishing second still outweighs any disappointment. Particularly when compared to last year, when the team were knocked out in the group stage, this year’s performance was a great success. And what does the future hold for the team? If the winners are unable to take part in the European University Championship in Portugal, the HSRW team still has the chance to take their place. In any case, the team will continue to play in the second-highest division against other clubs from the Lower Rhine region.
