Since the ‘Lecturer Pool’ service portal went live in April 2014, numerous candidates have been able to find teaching posts. The 1,000th lecturer has now registered.
Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 18 December 2015: As student numbers continue to rise in the coming years, so too will the demand for qualified lecturers. In response to this situation, the four universities – Rhein-Waal, Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Düsseldorf and Niederrhein – have set up a joint project known as the Lecturer Pool Service Centre (SLBP). The service centre offers interested academics the opportunity to register with the pool of lecturers and thus – depending on their needs and interests – to apply for teaching posts at the participating universities. However, the project is not solely about identifying and selecting suitable lecturers. Consistent support for lecturers through continuing professional development in higher education pedagogy and interdisciplinary fields plays an equally important role. For example, a career path leading to a ‘university professorship’ is to be developed, and women are to be specifically supported in order to increase the proportion of female professors.
The service centre has now registered its 1,000th prospective lecturer in the pool. This figure indicates a high level of interest in university teaching via the SLBP. Candidates can register in the online database at www.lehrbeauftragtenpool.de and create a profile there detailing the courses they offer. The candidates registered in the pool offer professionally interesting and diverse career paths and, in many cases, meet the quality standards of the universities and, consequently, of the service centre.
The project is funded by the ‘Quality Pact for Teaching’, a federal-state programme aimed at improving study conditions and enhancing the quality of teaching.
