Interview - Latino Dance

1. What do we need to know about Latino Dance? What is so special about Latino Dance?

Latin American music rhythms was a concept that emerged in USA in order to be able to differ musical rhythms coming from Latin America from those with an Afro-American origin (even the when the first where inspired by them). In this sense, Latin music does not refer to a unique music style, but it covers a huge number of genres such as merengue, bachata or salsa. This music is a piece of popular culture, as these folkloric rhythms include legends, tales, dances and traditions from different artistic expressions.

Dancing Latin music implies feeling the melody of its musical instruments, and letting them take control of your body. Besides being a great way of expression and stress relief, it is a great physical conditioning activity. They can be danced solo, with partner, or even in big groups.

This course will teach you the basics of bachata, salsa caleña, merengue and lambada. Additional to that you will have the opportunity to learn how to dance some rhythms such as cumbia, mapalé, porro, vallenato among others.
