Kamp-Lintfort Campus

From Tradition to Future

Bild

There’s a phenomenon sweeping the Lower Rhine region, one which we’ve seen elsewhere in the Rhine-Ruhr region – in Bochum and Dortmund for example: a coal mining operation is closed and a new institution of higher education is erected in its place. This process itself is a metaphor for larger changes in the region, for shifting priorities, a restructuring of society and a prosperous future. In December 2011, the ground was symbolically broken for the new campus on Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee. After three short years of construction, the brand-new facilities were officially inaugurated and opened for students and teachers of the Faculty of Communication and Environment. The campus has a total area of 17,850 m² (excluding the car park and Villa Kellermann) 16,320 m² rented space, 11,420 m² floor space (buildings 1-6). It lies squarely in the heart of Kamp-Lintfort, next to the now quiet Bergwerk West colliery and the site of the 2020 State Garden Show where the Green FabLab, built specifically for this show and now rented by HSRW, is located. Its central location and inviting forum make the Campus a meeting place not just for students, but for locals as well.

Our focus in Kamp-Lintfort is on applied learning based around the complex, real-world requirements that graduates will face. Our new facilities support us in this goal. The campus features four newly constructed and aesthetically-designed buildings, which can accommodate up to 2,900 students. Its seven lecture halls – including a campus Audimax with seating for 300 – and eight seminar rooms were designed to provide students with a comfortable and effective learning environment. All of our state-of-the-art facilities – which also include hands-on laboratories, PC pools, a language centre, canteen and library – are located within walking distance of one another and help students get the most out of their studies.

In a way, our new campus in Kamp-Lintfort doesn’t just stand for a changing landscape; it also signifies a new focal point for innovative, interdisciplinary and international education and research in North Rhine-Westphalia.

We hope to see you in Kamp-Lintfort.
