Certified diversity

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences successfully completed the diversity audit of the Foundation for German Sciences (Stifterverband) in 2018 and was awarded a three-year Vielfalt gestalten certification. Following a successful re-audit in 2021, this certification was extended for another three years.

Vielfalt gestalten – or developing diversity – is an audit process of the Foundation for German Sciences designed to advise and support universities in developing strategies, structures, services, instruments and projects tailored towards minority students with the goal of improving inclusion and graduation success across a broader spectrum of backgrounds.

Fair trade university

In October 2017, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences was officially certified as the 15th Fair Trade University in Germany and, at the same time, the first in North Rhine-Westphalia. This certification recognises Rhine-Waal University’s commitment to promoting awareness for fair trade practices among its students and employees. The certification was awarded by Transfair, known also as Fairtrade Deutschland, an independent initiative dedicated to the fair trade ideal and successfully renewed in 2020.

Certified family-friendly

berufundfamilie GmbH offers an audit for universities in Germany as an instrument to make their structures and personnel policies more family friendly. By participating in this audit, the Executive Board wished to highlight the importance of this topic and take meaningful action towards establishing more family-friendly policies at Rhine-Waal University. After successful family-friendly certifications in 2015 and 2018, Rhine-Waal University is eager to present the improvements it has made in the meantime for a re-certification in 2021.

Progressive universities against xenophobia

The members of the University Rectors’ Conference (HRK) have joined together to take a public stand against xenophobia in Germany. Each university proudly positions itself on its homepage that it is progressive, cosmpolitan and against xenophobia. The 2015 initiative was launched in reaction to rising rates of racially motivated verbal and physical violence.

Supporters of the Deutschlandstipendium

The Deutschlandstipendium is a merit-based scholarship for students of excellence at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. The scholarship is awarded not only to students based on their academic performance, but also for their actions outside of the classroom, whether in the community, in leadership roles, or due to their perseverance in spite of significant social, family-related or personal hardships.

National Codex for International Students at German Universities

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences joined the National Codex for International Students at German Universities in 2020. This codex is a signal that Rhine-Waal University has a long-term, vested interest in qualified students, doctoral candidates and early-career researchers from abroad. At the same time, it also a promsie to adhere to uniform quality standards with regard to information and advertising, admissions, and support services for international students and researchers both during and after their studies.
