"The World at its Zenith"

Campus Kleve
Lecture Hall Centre (Building 1), Ground Floor, Room 010

The Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is pleased to announce the event "The World at its Zenith", a text-music collage by Grupo Sal and Patricia Gualinga. For more than 30 years, Grupo Sal has been an important "voice of Latin America", building bridges between the diverse musical landscapes of Latin America and explosive development and environmental issues. Patricia Gualinga is the historic leader of the Sarayaku community, which has been waging a successful struggle against international oil companies for more than 20 years to stop them from encroaching on their territory and exploiting their mineral resources.

Deep in the Ecuadorian rainforest lives the indigenous community of Sarayaku, which has been waging a successful struggle against international oil companies for more than 20 years to stop them from encroaching on their territory and exploiting their mineral resources. Patricia Gualinga is the historic leader of this community and key figure in the case against the state of Ecuador before the International Court of Justice - a strong leader in an ever-growing feminist movement fighting for the protection of the Amazon. Through her exemplary fight for the preservation of the rainforest, her commitment to climate protection and her impulses for a contemporary rethinking, the community around Patricia Gualinga has become an international symbol of sustainability and forward-looking resistance.

For more than 30 years, Grupo Sal has been an important "voice of Latin America", making an impact in Central Europe. Grupo Sal interprets Latin American music in a passionate and multifaceted way. The group builds bridges between the diverse musical landscapes of Latin America and explosive development and environmental issues. Prominent activists, writers and politicians are guests at Grupo Sal's unique events.

The University is pleased to announce the event "The World at its Zenith" by Grupo Sal, musicians from Latin America and Patricia Gualinga, the historical leader of the indigenous Kichwa community of Sarayaku.

The stories and accounts of Patricia Gualinga and the passionate music of Grupo Sal form a unique collage that is not only informative, raises questions and stimulates debate, but also deeply touching and moving. Current issues create an exciting dialogue that affects us all.

Presenter and translator Riccarda Flemmer contributes her own perspective, in-depth expertise and wide-ranging experience to shape the programme. Her political and professional contribution enriches the debate.

The event will take place in German, English and Spanish and will be translated. Patricia Gualinga will be joined live. The programme is a cooperation with Climate Alliance and is supported by the Foundation Environment and Development North Rhine-Westphalia.
