Have you lost or damaged a book borrowed from the library?

Please notify the library directly so that you do not have to pay late fees in addition to the costs for the replacement. If you have any questions, please contact us by e-mail at bibliothek@hochschule-rhein-waal.de.

In the case of a book that cannot be found, the library may exceptionally allow you a short period of time to search for it (usually 7 days) even after the end of the loan period.

If you are unsure whether you need to replace a book due to damage, please contact the library information desk during service hours for an assessment.


Replacement Purchase

If you need to replace a library book, you can decide which way the replacement should be made. In any case, you must inform the library of this decision in good time by e-mail to bibliothek@hochschule-rhein-waal.de, as different acquisition processes will be initiated.

If you do not notify the library and the loan period is exceeded by more than 40 calendar days, a replacement will be initiated by the library.


You buy the book yourself.

The library will give you the exact dates of the book and a deadline by which you must replace it. The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is the easiest way to find the right book. When buying, please make sure that the book

  • is new or used and in good condition,
  • has the same or a more recent edition and
  • the same binding (hardback, hardcover, etc.) as the book to be replaced.

Please bring the book to the library's information desk during service hours. The book will be checked there and then returned from your library account.

For the self-replacement, you only pay the purchase price of the book, there is no processing fee.


The library buys the book.

The library buys the book and charges the purchasing price of the book as well as a processing fee of 10.00 euros to your library account. The processing fee is charged per case and is independent of the number of books to be replaced. At the same time, the book will be returned from your library account. We will inform you by e-mail so that you can pay the fees in good time.

If you find a missing book after the acquisition process has begun, you will no longer be able to return it and will have to pay the cost of the replacement. You can keep the replaced book.
