About

Kleve Model United Nations (KleMUN) is a student-organized simulation of the United Nations. Every year in autumn, it feels like the United Nations come to the idyllic town of Kleve, as every student plays the role of a diplomat representing a country, an organisation or a firm –just like in real life. In each of the four committees of this UN simulation, which is held in English, the students intensely debate about important and critical issues of the international community. The discussions are open and suitable for everyone, from the first-time fresher to the already far advanced MUN expert. Whatever your level is, be ready to have a thrilling time in and outside the conference rooms, as there will be great social events going on as well. An evening in a bar to get to know your fellow delegates or even the delegates' ball to feel the glamour. KleMUN is a great chance to meet new and passionate people from all over the globe. But be aware, you might get the MUN-fever! This year's conference takes place from 21st to 24th November 2019 under the topic: "Make it Matter".

United Nations Environment Programme

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is a branch of the United Nationsthat deals with the environmental activities of the organization and assists developing countries in implementing environmentally sound policies and practices. Its activities cover a wide range of issues regarding the atmosphere, marine and terrestrial ecosystems, environmental governance and green economy. UNEP is located in Nairobi, Kenia, and was founded in 1972. As a result of the Stockholm conference UNEP is the highest environmental decision-making body which understands itself as an advocate for the global environment”.

Topic I: The increasing threat of space debris, in particular, the possible collision with and safety of space objects carrying nuclear power sources.

Topic II: Possible response and restoration measures to curb with the devastating amazon rainforest fires.

 

United Nations Global Compact

The United Nations Global Compact is a pact of cooperation of the United Nations aiming at sustainable and socially responsible policies of businesses worldwide. It is a voluntary based initiative focusing on cooperation between businesses, NGOs and civil society organizations. Announced by the then UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on 31st January 1999, the UN Global Compact is based on ten principles covering the areas human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

Topic I: Establishing a framework for effective and sustainable corruption prevention, to ensure fair and transparent market competition.

Topic II: Developing guidelines to reduce gender-based discrimination, regarding recruitment and maternity protection within the private sector.

 

United Nations Security Council

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) was founded in 1946 after the Second World War and is primarily responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security on the global level. Located in New York, USA, the Security Council is composed of 15 members of which five are permanent veto powers and ten being non-permanent members. Moreover, it responds to threats and breaches of international peace. 

Representing a country in the Security Council at KleMUN 2019 is a task of great responsibility. Apart from advanced debating experiences also negotiation skills are inevitable. 

Topic: The situation concerning Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.

 

United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

The United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice is a congress covering the areas of crime, crime prevention and criminal justice sponsored by the United Nations. The congress takes place every five years and includes UN member states and observers, international organizations, NGOs and individual experts. It is organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and was initially held in 1955. The congress is the place where different actors meet in order to find global solutions to issues of criminal related activities.

Topic I: Strengthening international cooperation in the area of law enforcement regarding cybercrime.

Topic II: Combating human trafficking, in the form of establishing effective prevention for trafficking of persons, especially of vulnerable communities throughout conflict zones.
