Equal Opportunities Officers

Who we are

Every faculty has got Equal Opportunities Officers who support the work of the Central Equal Opportunities Officer and her team. The Council of the Faculty of Communication and Environment has elected both Andrea da Silva and Tammy Brandenberg to act as their Faculty Representatives.

Our Tasks

We promote equal opportunities for women and men and work towards eliminating existing disadvantages for female researchers and students. This includes personnel, organisational and social measures in accordance with the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia § 24 and the State Equal Opportunities Act of North Rhine-Westphalia § 17.

For us this primarily concerns the following areas of responsibility:

• Participation in the development, progress and implementation of the measures of the decentralised equal opportunities plan of the Faculty of Communication and Environment.
• Participation in university-wide projects, programmes and concepts at faculty level.
• Accompanying staff recruitment processes and advising internal faculty committees.
• Conception and implementation of projects and events on the topic of equality and diversity, which are intended to contribute to the reduction of gender-specific barriers (e.g. Girls' Day and Boys' Day, Foundation Week).
• Networking with internal and external gender equality actors.
• Questions or need for advice in the area of gender equality.
• Support for students and staff with family obligations (e.g. booking a parent-child room, caring for family members).

Come and see us if

• you need information and advice on questions of equality, equal opportunities, balancing family and studies/profession, or in cases involving disadvantage, discrimination, etc.,
• you are a student, employee or professor and would like to use our parent-child room to mind your child,
• you are interested in information on maternity protection, parental leave or childcare options,
• you feel disadvantaged or discriminated against,
• you have got suggestions for improving equal opportunities or family-friendliness at our faculty or have got your own project ideas in the field of equality

Confidentiality and Data Protection

All your inquiries will, of course, be treated confidentially and under strict adherence to the data protection rules and regulations. We will only take action if the person seeking advice explicitly agrees.
