Students of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences can request changes to their registered name and gender in HSRW databases. Four gender options are available: männlich (male), weiblich (female), divers (diverse), keine Angabe (not specified).
In addition, students are generally recommended to obtain a supplementary ID (Ergänzungsausweis) through the German Society for Transidentity and Intersexuality (DGTI, www.dgti.org) to help explain the difference in personal information between your legal ID and your study documents. The supplementary ID contains your preferred name and gender as well as the legal ID number.
Before submitting a change request, you can also book a personal advising appointment through the Student Advisory Service to learn more. In your request you must explicitly confirm that you, as the requesting person, agree to assume all responsibility for potential legal risks and consequences resulting from your decision. Requests must be signed and submitted to Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Department of Student Services, Marie-Curie-Straße 1, 47533 Kleve. A simple email is insufficient.
Certificates and other official HSRW documents will be issued (also retroactively) using your preferred name. If you would like new graduation documents issued with your preferred name, please submit a request to Examination Services.
