Academic Staff Council
The Academic Staff Council represents the interests of all academic and scientific staff at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences
A short introduction to the Academic Staff Council
Staff councils form an integral, legally founded part of every public employer in Germany. They are obligated by law (Section 2 (1) LPVG) to work in a close and trusting fashion with their relevant superior authority (here the Executive Board) to execute its official tasks and promote as well as represent the interests of its constituent employees within the scope of German law and relevant collective wage agreements.
The Academic Staff Council represents
- scientific and research staff of the University
- specific functionaries within the German higher education system (Akademische Rätinnen/Räte, Studienrätinnen/-räte)
- Teaching Fellows (Lehrkraft für besondere Aufgaben)
- Lecturers with a workload of 4 SWS/semester or more
- graduate assistants (wissenschaftliche Hilfskräfte)
- seconded teachers

Responsibilities of the Academic Staff Council
- Representation of the interests of employees
- Mediation between superiors or department and employees
- Advice and support for employees (grouping, promotion, contract changes, termination, conflicts, etc.)
- Support in the implementation of occupational health and safety and good working conditions
