Jakob Lempp, Professor for Political Science with a focus on International Relations, and Katja Flockau, scientific assistant for Central Course Management with focus on International Relations und Gender and Diversity, represented the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in a joint workshop with the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Radboud Universiteit and the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen in the “Werkstatt an der Grenze”. The spring school, which took place on the Kleve campus in 2018, was taken to the virtual space for the first time in 2021.

Ten students from International Relations, B.A. and Sustainable Tourism, B.A. were participated in the workshop, this year under the lead of the UDE, discussing the end of the Second World War in the German-Dutch border area. With a focus on the similarities and differences in the culture of remembrance of the Second World War, textbooks from both countries were analyzed, film materials compared and contemporary documents from archives evaluated. Following several meetings with lectures, the students worked out their own evaluations in mixed groups from all universities.
