Researcher from Kazakhstan visits the Faculty of Society and Economics

Ms Bakhytkul Tokbergenova

Since 1 June 2022, the Faculty of Society and Economics welcomes a new visiting scholar who will conduct research at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences for two months and deepen the exchange between Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences and Kazakh academic institutions that has already been established for several years: Ms Bakhytkul Tokbergenova comes from Almaty in Kazakhstan and has a Master's degree in Regional Studies there. She is currently doing her PhD at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Jakob Lempp as an external supervisor during her doctoral studies. Her previous research has focused on the genesis, forms and actor constellations of grassroots mobilisation in Central Asian cities. Her PhD project is dedicated to the structures of urban activism in Almaty ("the structure of urban activism in Almaty as involving different forms of society's reaction to chaotic and deregulated housing and infill construction"). A warm welcome!
