The staff of the Faculty of Society and Economics met on July 11, 2018 for the Faculty's Summer Festival. In a big round, there was an opportunity for many interesting discussions and exchanges. In a relaxed atmosphere, a beautiful evening at the Königsgarten succeeded at the Spoykanal in Kleve

39 students in the Finance and Economics Master´s program at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences visited the European Central Bank (ECB) and German Central Bank (GCB) in Frankfurt on June 21-22, 2018. The excursion was a part of the course “Applied Research Project” and its aim was to familiarize students with the work of two of the most powerful financial institutions in Europe.  

Again this year, numerous Bachelor and Master graduates were sent into professional life at a farewell ceremony with the best wishes for the future followed by a champagne reception on 15 June 2018 in the town hall in Kleve.

140 graduates experienced together with their families and friends a moving afternoon with numerous speeches and honors enriched i.a. by a musical performance of a selection of the University Choir. In his speech, the Dean Prof. Dr. Jakob Lempp thanked the graduates: "The Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Society and Economics are proud of you and we are grateful that you have chosen us, for a young university, a university that does many things differently other than others, a university whose guiding principle is "Inspired by the passion of a hundred nations!" And a university that may be a role model for others with its international campus, with people from 120 countries working together peacefully and productively."

Im Spannungsfeld zwischen gesellschaftlicher Erwartung, eingeübter Verwaltungspraxis und wissenschaftlicher Expertise kommt der Politikberatung eine wachsende Bedeutung zu. Zahlreiche Think Tanks, private Unternehmen, Stiftungen und andere Organisationen versuchen, sich auf diesem Markt zu behaupten. Auch in Deutschland hat sich die Politikberatung  in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten stärker entwickelt. Diese Themenfelder wurden auf einem hochrangig besetzten Symposium zu den Potenzialen und Grenzen (politik-)wissenschaftlicher Politikberatung an der Sächsischen Landeszentrale für politische Bildung in Dresden am 28. Mai 2018 intensiv diskutiert.

Vorstellung der Studie zum Thema „Quartiersentwicklung in Kleve“; eine Zusammenarbeit der Hochschule Rhein-Waal und der Stadt Kleve. Wie erfahren die Anwohnerinnen und Anwohner des untersuchten Pilot-Quartiers in der Klever Oberstadt ihre Lebenssituation? Wie zufrieden sind sie mit der allgemeinen Lebensqualität und Versorgungsinfrastruktur? Wie beurteilen sie das Miteinander im Stadtteil? Der Vortrag stellt die Ergebnisse vor und widmet sich der Frage nach möglichen Handlungsfeldern für eine zukünftige kommunale Planung und Quartiersentwicklung.
