Locals4Students aims to bring together students of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences and socially engaged residents of the Lower Rhine region.
International students, most of whom are staying for several years in campus, are often interested in making friends and contacts outside of on-campus social circles. Contact with local residents outside of a university context helps students better understand Germany and German culture. At the same time, residents have the opportunity to experience the cultural diversity offered by our student body.
The Lower Rhine region should be more than a place for international students to study – it should be a home away from home.
How it works
If you would like to join the Locals4Students programme, please download and complete the registration form (available in German and English) and send it to the Welcome Centre by email or post. The registration form contains information about you, your interests, what you want to get out of the programme and more.
You can request to be automatically matched with a local or student on the registration form or you can register for an upcoming Locals4Students information event and meet potential matches in person. When a local (the mentor) and a student (the mentee) come together, they can then send us a notification email so that they are removed from the pool of potential candidates. Once a year programme participants are asked to give the current status of their involvment so that the candidate pool can be updated.
An information event for all interested students and locals is held once a semester in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort. For participants without a match, information events are a chance to find a mentor or a mentee. Existing mentoring pairs can also talk about their experiences and offer additional tips and advice. If you find mentor or a mentee during an information events, please inform the Welcome Centre so that we can remove you from the pool of potential candidates.
We look forward to receiving your application!
