‘Expedition Depression’ - Master's students raise awareness and destigmatise mental illnesses
How do you recognise depression? What forms can it take and what support services are available, especially for young people? On 26 November 2024, students on the Master's degree course in Health Sciences and Management, in cooperation with AOK Rheinland/Hamburg, invite you to a film screening followed by a panel discussion.
At the heart of the event is the documentary 'Expedition Depression', which explores the personal experiences of five young adults with depression. The road movie analyses not only the individual challenges, but also the social and structural conditions that influence how people deal with depression. It offers hope and shows ways in which people can find the courage to face life despite the severity of the illness.
Scientific and practical perspectives
The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion with experts from science and practice, including health scientists, psychotherapists and AOK representatives. The discussion will offer a variety of perspectives on depression and highlight specific strategies and help that can make everyday life easier for those affected. A key issue will be how people with depression, their families and professionals can work together to find ways of coping with mental stress and using appropriate support systems.
The event is part of a research project by students on the Master's programme in Health Sciences and Management, which aims to destigmatise depression and raise public awareness. The role of health insurance companies, such as the AOK, in supporting sufferers and improving prevention will also be discussed.
The event offers not only scientific insights, but also practical solutions to improve the way society deals with depression in the long term.
