Students from the International Taxation and Law, B.A. program at Hochschule Rhein-Waal had the opportunity to gain practical insights into the world of international taxation. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. habil. Ute Merbecks, the group worked on an exciting project focused on Transfer Pricing in cooperation with Henkel.

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the students were welcomed at Henkel’s headquarters in Düsseldorf. The program included intensive work on three different case studies: (1) Transfer Pricing, (2) Mergers and Acquisitions Tax, and (3) Tax Technology. These practice-oriented tasks provided the students with the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge to real business scenarios and gain valuable practical experience.

After the intensive work phase, the students presented their findings to a panel of experts from Henkel and the university. The presentations impressively showcased the high level of the students' knowledge and the relevance of the topics addressed for practical application.

In addition to the project work, the students had the opportunity to visit Henkel's Inspiration Center Düsseldorf. This tour provided them with deep insights into the company's innovation and research efforts. The day was rounded off with discussions about career opportunities at Henkel. The colleagues informed the students about entry-level positions and career paths within the company.

Prof. Dr. habil. Ute Merbecks expressed her enthusiasm for the students' engagement and performance: “Such collaborations are invaluable for the education of our students. They allow them to apply their knowledge in a real-world context and make valuable industry connections.” Henkel also spoke positively about the collaboration: “We are always pleased to provide young talents with insights into our company while benefiting from their fresh perspectives on our challenges,” said a company representative.

This successful project once again highlights the importance of collaboration between universities and industry to provide students with a practical and future-oriented education.
