In a globalizing world, the Competence Center Societal Transformations (ccst) investigates how crises and major transformations such as climate change, demographic change, digitalization and pandemics, financial crises and wars, and changes in the natural environment affect society. The goal of transformative research is to bring about change based on empirical research.
ccst focuses on social change, such as changes in lifestyles, the world of work, forms of coexistence, migration and mobility, the formation and representation of political interests, and forms of sustainable management. The aim is to develop inter- and transdisciplinary approaches from the perspectives of political science, economics, geography and sociology. In particular, the Euregio border region is a starting point for processes of social change across national borders. In addition, the projects examine questions of social transformation and sustainable development on a global scale, taking into account inequalities between the global North and the global South.
CCST projects are characterized by a variety of methodologies. In terms of transformation research, participatory research and applied social science approaches are of particular importance.
