Dear Interested!

We invite you to the conference "Medienberichterstattung über sexualisierte Gewalt gegen Kinder/Media Coverage on Sexualized Violence against Children" on June 23, 2022 from 12 pm to 18: 45 pm. The event will take place at the Kleve campus of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in a hybrid format and in English and German. The focus will be on the presentation of preliminary interim results from the international-comparative research project on "Child Sexual Abuse Crimes in Media Coverage – Providing Expertise for Sustainable Media Support of CSA Crimes Survivors" in cooperation with the University of Tartu and the NGO "Stellit" (St. Petersburg/Leiden) (funded by The Council of Baltic Sea States). The aim of the application-oriented, comparative project is to identify and analyse any existing myths in the media about sexualized violence against children and to develop practical recommendations for their deconstruction.

From 12:00 to 13:30 (room KLE 01 01 002) Prof. Dr. Tatiana Zimenkova and Prof. Dr. Eva Maria Hinterhuber (Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences) will introduce the project, and Simone Eelma, M.A. (University of Tartu), and Yuliya Grishina, M.A. (Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences), will present the preliminary results of the Estonian and German subprojects (in English). Dr. Soc. Sc. Meri Kulmala will complete the picture with an insight into "Russian Child Welfare Reform and its Links to Global Child Rights".

From 13:45 to 14:45 (room KLE 01 01 002) follows a key note on "The Gender Bias in the Media Coverage on Sexualized Violence" by Dr. Caterina Rohde-Abuba (Head of Research, World Vision Germany e.V.) (in English).

This will be followed (15:15 - 16:45, room KLE 01 01 002) by a panel discussion (in German) on "How to find words? Sexualized violence against children and adolescents" with Dipl.-Psych. Katja Kleinebenne from the Counselling Centre against Sexualized Violence, Caritas Kleve, Yvonne Tertilte-Rübo, Equal Opportunities Officer of the City of Kleve, and Dr. Thomas Swiderek, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

The event will end with a workshop for students and practitioners on "Media Coverage on Sexualized Violence against Children: Application of the Project Results" with Yuliya Grishina (in English; 17:15 - 18:45, room KLE 01 02 006).
