ZIM-KOOP

Project with Fluxana GmbH & Co. KG

Research project on the development of new analytical methods for x-ray fluorescence analysis and related technologies

The first ZIM-KOOP-Project of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, conducted in cooperation with Fluxana GmbH & Co. KG from Bedburg-Hau, develops new analytical methods for x-ray fluorescence analysis (XRFA). Supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the two-year project is implemented by the faculty Technology and Bionics. Fluxana has specialised in the field of x-ray fluorescence, has developed its own unique quality control method for spectrometer manufacturers and is thus an experienced project partner for the university. In the Project, the partners are seeking to improve sample preparation and analytical methods for x-ray fluorescence analysis (XRFA).

Though XRFA can at this stage determine which chemical elements are present in a sample, fused beads have to be produced for certain elements in cement, minerals or steelmaking slags which are fused with the sample material. During the sample preparation, elements are lost and therefore t [Fluxana GmbH & Co. KG] he chemical composition of the finished product cannot be determined using the current analytical method.

Within 2 years, the Research Centre is funded with Euro 175,000 for the necessary testing. At the same time, investments in infrastructure at Fluxana are co-financed.
