2.1 Self-Management Under Constant Performance Pressure

Stress Management for Scientists – Ideas and Best Practice Exchange

Postdocs as well as professors are characterized by highly efficient work habits and a strong willingness to perform. This is the only way they can manage their daily work, which is marked by numerous tasks, high expectations, and limited time.

The fast work pace and variety and density of tasks often lead to stress. We will identify common stressors in the academic environment. Our focus will be on strategies and techniques to strengthen your personal competence, addressing three areas of stress management: instrumental (e.g., time management), mental (e.g., handling perfectionism), and regenerative (e.g., balance and break planning). The goal is for you to take away specific approaches and methods to maintain a long-term, healthy balance between tension and relaxation.

At the same time, many scientists experience that despite all self-optimization and efficiency, some things still don’t succeed. How can one deal appropriately with this limitation? Smart self-leadership always includes acceptance and self-care. Accepting limitations and treating oneself with mindfulness is essential for leaders. In our best practice exchange, participants will learn how this can be achieved.
