Prof. Dr. Peter Scholz

Born in Cologne, Scholz studied there at the University of Cologne and for his synthesis paper in organic chemistry he was awarded a Doctoral degree.

Subsequently, visiting research fellowships led him to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich as well as to the Skaggs Institute for Chemical Biology and to the Chemistry Department at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla in the USA. 

After almost ten years of conducting research and working on development in companies of biotechnology, since October 2009, he has been particularly concerned to share his enthusiasm on current issues of life sciences with students and colleagues at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

Interdisciplinary methods of working fascinate him. He especially likes to develop bridges between the academic and the practical world, e.g. when using biomolecules or structures based on nature in technical or pharmaceutical use.

As chemist he is fascinated by the possibilities to change naturally occurring (molecule) structures to, on the one hand, learn something about them, on the other hand, to bring to use the emerged characteristics caused by change.

Chemistry, biochemistry and analytics are his tools - and also the subjects he instructs at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
