And the Stock Market Bronze Medal for Students in Rhineland Goes to Kleve
From October 2025 to the end of January 2026, nearly 40 students from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences competed against students from across Germany in the stock market simulation “Planspiel Börse”, trading on the stock market with a fictitious starting capital of 50,000 euros.
Eid Abdelnaim (student of bachelor programme International Taxation & Law) achieved a portfolio value of 60,137 euros by the end of the game, a gain of more than 20% in 4 months, while well-known stock market indices such as Dow Jones or EURO STOXX 50 only performed 7% over the same period. He not only achieved the best result among all students in Kleve, but also the third-best performance of all students in the Rhineland.
In April, the award ceremony of the Rheinischer Sparkassen- und Giro-Verband took place in Düsseldorf, where the most successful participants from the school and university competitions were honored; Eid Abdelnaim and the university-side supervisor of the stock market simulation, Prof. Dr. Ralf Bauer were invited. The organising savings bank Sparkasse Rhein-Maas was represented by Ms. Karoline Pesnjak.
During an entertaining programme at Rheinblick 741, the top stock market traders were asked about their success strategies and stock recommendations and were awarded prizes.
This is not the first time that Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences has achieved outstanding results in the stock market simulation beyond the borders of the Lower Rhine region. In 2015, the top HSRW student team even reached rank no. 1 in Germany.
