Teaching Evaluation
Two core aspects of quality management in university academics are the satisfaction and professional development of students, professors, lecturers and scientific staff. These are top priorities for the Centre for Academic Development and Quality (ZfQ), which combines continuous evaluation of teaching and learning with custom tailored measures for improvement to ensure a high standard of quality for education at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
As a central organisational unit, the Centre for Academic Development and Quality coordinates the quality evaluation process by regularly polling students, teachers, staff and alumni of the University. In addition, it also provides the faculties with scientifically grounded advice and support in developing, planning and implementing their own internal evaluation techniques.
The Centre for Academic Development and Quality regularly organises advanced didactic training workshops for teaching staff at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences and informs staff of relevant qualification workshops offered outside of the university.
Quality evaluations
The Centre for Academic Development and Quality regularly coordinates student evaluations across all faculties and study courses. Direct feedback from students lets teachers critically examine their teaching methods and, where appropriate, adjust their didactic approach to better reach their teaching goals.
As part of its internal evaluation methods, the Centre for Academic Development and Quality also conducts a comprehensive survey among all members of the University – including new and existing students, graduates, professors, lecturers and non-academic staff – every three years. This survey critically examines various aspects of teaching and learning at the University, as well as the framework conditions within the faculties and the University as a whole. The results provide faculties with valuable insight into their current strengths and weaknesses, allowing them to develop targeted measures for improvement.
Finally, the Centre for Academic Development and Quality conducts regular surveys on academic quality during organised events at the University, for example the annual Orientation Week, gap courses or the Sneak Study event every semester.
