Gives talk on the art of diplomacy

On April 15, 2015, Professor Dr. Jakob Lempp, Associate Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Society and Economics, warmly welcomed U.S. Consul General Stephen A. Hubler to Kleve and to Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. The Consul General gave an exciting talk about the art of diplomacy and his experiences at the many diplomatic stations in his career to an audience of 130 students and staff in the campus Audimax.

In his interesting and exciting presentation, U.S. Consul General Stephen A. Hubler spoke about the art of diplomacy and the many stations he has been assigned to in his long career as a diplomat, including Germany, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, the Republic of Macedonia and Russia. Mr. Hubler is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he earned a degree in International Relations. This provided a unique look at future career possibilities to members of the audience, many of whom are currently studying International Relations at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

The talk concluded with round of questions and answers, in which Mr. Hubler discussed family life in diplomatic service and career opportunities for women, as well as answered questions on current events such as U.S.-European free trade agreements and Edward Snowden. Many students were interested to discover the possibility of doing a placement at the U.S. Consulate General in Düsseldorf. As Mr. Hubler confirmed, consular staff are looking forward to receiving the many applications that are sure to come from motivated undergraduates of the International Relations programme at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
