Successful Doctorate

Gaurang Khot, student and graduate from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences has successfully defended his doctoral thesis, “Chemical Imaging of Neural Communication” on 23.02.2022. This marks a major highlights in terms of the cooperation of Rhein-Waal University with Radboud University towards awarding joint doctoral degree program. For his doctoral thesis, Gaurang was supervised with Prof. Neil Shirtcliffe from Rhein-Waal University and Prof. Tansu Celikel, Donders Insitute for Brain Cognition and Behavior at Radboud University.

His thesis is a preclinical platform wherein he developed carbon nanotube electrodes for electrochemical detection of dopamine and serotonin. These sensors can be used as long term implants in the brain for detection of biogenetic amines.

Gaurang Khot studied B.Sc. and M.Sc. Biotechnology from University of Mumbai and then moved to Germany in 2011 for doing his M.S. Bionics/Biomimetics from Hochschule Rhein-Waal. After finishing his master’s, he was working with Prof. Neil Shirtcliffe as a research assistant. In 2016, they approached Prof. Tansu Celikel at Radboud University for a joint doctoral program.
