Professor Dr. Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk appointed as new president of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences

Professor Dr. Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Environment at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, will officially take office on 1 September 2015.

Professor Dr. Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk has been named the new president of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences

Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 1 July 2015: The University Council and Senate of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences have elected Professor Dr. Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk to become the university’s next president. She will take over for the current president, Professor Dr. Beate Rennen-Allhoff, who did not put herself forward for reelection, on September 1, 2015.

Prof. Dr. Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk has been Professor of Computer Science and Biology at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences since 2009. Her field of teaching is human-computer interaction and the development of multimedia systems. As Founding Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Environment, Prof. Dr. Schramm-Wölk has been instrumental in promoting the growth and development of the faculty. In October 2014, she was confirmed for another term in office as dean.

President of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Dr. Heide Naderer, extended her warm congratulations to Prof. Dr. Schramm-Wölk on her appointment and thanked her for her tireless efforts and considerable contributes to the development of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. “The work she has done as a Founding Dean at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences deserves the highest praise. Her outstanding efforts have put Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences on the right path in Kamp-Lintfort. We will look back on her time in office fondly and are happy that she’ll be right around the corner in Bielefeld”, said Dr. Naderer.

During the most recent meeting of the Senate at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Senate chairman Professor Dr. Ralf Klapdor officially announced Prof. Dr. Schramm-Wölk’s appointment to the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences: “I would also like to extend my warm congratulations to Prof. Dr. Schramm-Wölk. I’m happy for my former colleagues at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, who will be getting an excellent president, and I’m happy to see the deep appreciation expressed by this appointment for Prof. Dr. Schramm-Wölk’s extensive development work at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. At the same time I’m saddened by her leaving, because her shoes will be difficult to fill”, said Prof. Dr. Klapdor.

Prof. Dr. Schramm-Wölk played an integral role in driving the development of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kamp-Lintfort with her personal commitment and her natural talent as a facilitator and a motivator. Following her studies in biology and computer science in medicine in Tübingen and Berlin, Prof. Dr. Schramm-Wölk worked in R&D at the renowned Charité Berlin. Additionally, she worked for many years as an IT developer and project manager in the private sector. In 2004 she earned her PhD at the Humboldt University Berlin, writing her dissertation on the topic of “Electronic Patient Records”. Prior to assuming her post at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, she worked as a Professor of Informatics and Multimedia at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Köthen, Saxony-Anhalt.

“We accomplished what the goals necessary for the founding phase of the faculty. A new phase of development has begun”, explains Prof. Dr. Schramm-Wölk. “It was a privilege to contribute to the development of a new university of applied sciences. These past years have been truly breathtaking. I would like to thank all of my colleagues for the time we shared and the strong teamwork, the students for their trust and input, and the residents of Kamp-Lintfort, who made us feel at home from the very beginning. It is a wonderful thing to experience when so many people work as one towards a common goal, and it leaves me with a feeling of gratitude and delight.”
