Graduation Ceremony 2017 at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences
Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences congratulates this year’s graduates! The 2017 graduation ceremony and champagne reception was a chance for staff to wish some 615 graduates a fond farewell and much success for their professional futures.

‘We are very pleased to see so many successful graduates and are confident that they are well qualified and prepared for their first career. We wish them very much success in all their endeavours to come,’ said Dr Heide Naderer, President of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
The supporters association Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V., in connection with the Unternehmerschaft Niederrhein and ALTANA AG, sponsored numerous awards for graduates who demonstrated excellence above and beyond their normal duties. Yousef Mustafa Alkhayyat who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Faculty of Technology and Bionics), was the first student to receive an excellence award, followed by Sandeep Vasudevan who graduated with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. The last award sponsored by the supporters association Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V. was presented to Jonas Wollweber who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering at the faculty of Technology and Bionics. The awards presented by ALTANA AG Unternehmerschaft Niederrhein went to Juliane Friedrich who graduated with a Bacherlor of Science in Psychology, Specialization: Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Karsten Kempken who graduated with a Bachelor in E-Government and David Sevsek who graduated with a Bachelor in Environment and Energy at the Faculty of Communication and Environment. The final award which came with a financial prize of 1,500 euros was presented by the Unternehmerschaft Niederrhein to Carolin Bucher, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Quality, Environment, Safety and Hygiene (Faculty of Life Sciences). In addition to completing their degree within the standard period of study, all students graduated with top marks and had a history of commitment to social or cultural projects throughout their time at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
A very special thanks goes to the Unternehmerschaft Niederrhein and ALTANA AG, which financially sponsored these awards through the supporters organisation, as well as to the many private sponsors and supporters who support the continued development of the University.
The Lower Rhine-based candy manufacturer Katjes Fassin GmbH & Co. KG again sponsored an award of their own - the Katjes Award. The award sought to honour the best thesis written by a graduating student in the Faculty of Society and Economics over the past year. The University and Katjes jointly decided on the winner based on the following criteria: practical relevance of the topic, the innovativeness of the thesis’ proposed solution, the viability of implementing the results, and the level of scientific standards demonstrated by the research.
The winner of this year’s Katjes Award was Anica Waldendorf, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Diversity. The award was presented on behalf of the entire Katjes team by Reinhard Sanders and Jürgen Kucken.
Another award which has also been presented in previous years was the ZONTA Student Award. The ZONTA Club Niederrhein honoured Jenny Mushegera, who graduated at the faculty of Society and Economics with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, for her extraordinary social commitment.
The supporters associations Förderverein Campus Camp-Lintfort e.V. also deserve special thanks and recognition for bestowing awards for exellence on a total of twelve graduates of the Faculty of Communication and Environment in Kamp-Lintfort. The awards, which were accompanied by a 200 euro prize, went to Jens Meier zu Farwig (Mobility and Logistics, B.Sc.), Robin Mike Keller (International Business and Social Sciences, B.A.), Hoi Ying Lam (Communication and Information Engineering, B.Sc.) Michaela Reichling (Usability Engineering, M.Sc.), Juliane Friedrich (Psychology, Specialization: Industrial and Organizational Psychology, B.Sc.), Karsten Kempken (E-Government, B.Sc.), Marcel Dogotari (Environment and Energy, B.Sc.) Annegret Reichel (Information and Communication Design, B.A.), Philippe Schild (Media Communication and Computer Science, B.Sc.), Lea Pauly (International Management and Psychology, M.Sc.) and Abdul Saboor (Information Engineering and Computer Science, M.Sc.), as well as Alicia van der Zwaag (Digital Media, M.A.).
In addition, each faculty individually honoured its best bachelor’s and master’s graduates of 2017:
