2nd place for the Futsal Team of Rhine-Waal University at the German University Futsal Championships (news)

The international futsal team of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences finished in 2nd place after competing against eleven futsal teams from all over Germany to win the German University Futsal Championship (indoor football) in Münster, from October 20 – 22, 2017.

After delivering top-notch indoor football in the preliminary round and a promising 3:1 semi-final victory, the team of ten HSRW players finally faced a very tough home team. Despite going all out in a hard-fought championship match, demonstrating true commitment and resilience, in the end, the Rhine-Waal team could not match the experience and attacking power of their competitors from Münster.

Yet, excitement about finishing in second place still far outweighs the lost title. Taking into account that only last year the team had to admit defeat as early as the group stage, this year’s performance represents an outstanding achievement.

And what comes next for the team? Should team WG Münster be prevented from participating, it will be up to the futsal team of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences to prove itself in the European University Futsal Championship taking place in Portugal next year. In any case, there are a number of challenging games against other futsal teams in the Lower Rhine Futsal league coming up for the team, as it plays on the second highest club level.
