International Exchange: Quality, Environment, Safety, and Hygiene Project with Lyon and Underberg
In the Bachelor's degree program "Quality, Environment, Safety, and Hygiene," students developed innovative "Green Nudges" across borders. Read on to find out what the successful cooperation with UC Lyon and the Underberg company looked like in practice.
Back in October 2025, three students from the Quality, Environment, Safety, and Hygiene as well as the Bioengineering degree programs traveled to the Université Catholique de Lyon (France) for a project week. For this occasion, students from six countries came together in Lyon: in addition to the hosts from France, there were also students from Finland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Portugal, and Germany. Working together in this international environment, they developed innovative ideas on the topics of sustainability and "Green Nudges."
The second part of the project has now taken place during the week of March 23 to 27, 2026. For this event, the Faculty of Life Sciences had the pleasure of welcoming two students from Lyon for a return visit to the campus in Kleve. Together with the three students from Kleve, the focus this time was on practical application: In close cooperation with the Underberg company in Rheinberg, the project group dealt intensively with practical, real-world issues relating to quality and sustainability. A special highlight for the students was the subsequent factory tour at Underberg, which offered valuable insights into everyday corporate practice.
The cross-border project was supervised by Prof. Dr. Simone Pauling and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rudolf Schumachers. They would like to thank the Underberg company for their excellent support and the exciting on-site insights.
